The US Congress made American Gold Star Mothers Day Wishes, Inc. a federal charter in 1929. Twenty-five moms from the Washington, DC, region started it, and it quickly grew to include connected groups nationwide. The last Sunday in September has been recognizing Gold Star Mother’s Day. Every year since 1936, a joint legislative resolution has established the holiday.
